FRENCH ONION SOUP

French Onion Soup, where finely caramelized onions, enriched with optional Nduja and flour, are simmered with beef stock, cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. This classic dish is crowned with golden croutons from French stick slices and a generous layer of Gruyere cheese.

Ingredients-

  • 4 onions, finely sliced

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp salted butter

  • 1 tbsp Nduja (optional)

  • 2 tbsp plain flour

  • 2 beef stock cubes

  • 1 litre hot water

  • 1 tbsp cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 100g Gruyère cheese

  • French Stick, for croutons


Instructions-

  • In a pan, cook down finely sliced onions in olive oil and salted butter until golden brown and caramelized.

  • Optional: Add Nduja and plain flour to the caramelized onions. Fry for a couple of minutes.

  • Add beef stock cubes, hot water, cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 20-30 minutes on low.

  • Cut three circles of French stick and grate half of the Gruyère cheese.

  • Drizzle French stick with olive oil and grill until golden on both sides.

Serve and enjoy.
