Ingredients-

(Step 1)

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped

  • 1/2 tsp chopped red chili

  • 1 tsp Sambal Oelek (chili paste)

  • 1 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)

  • 180g king prawns (frozen/defrosted)

  • 1 cooked chicken breast, cubed

(Step 2)

  • 600g cooked cold rice (1 cup basmati raw weight)

  • 2 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)

  • 1 tsp shrimp paste

  • Small cooked vegetables (e.g., peas, broccoli, sweetcorn)

Instructions-

(Step 1)

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a wok or large pan over medium heat.

  • Add the diced onion and fry until it becomes soft, golden, and slightly caramelized.

  • Add the finely chopped garlic, chopped red chili, Sambal Oelek, and 1 tablespoon of kecap manis to create a thick sauce.

  • Add the prawns and cooked, cubed chicken breast to the pan. Stir and cook over medium heat until well mixed and heated through.

  • Add the cooked cold rice to the pan, followed by 2 tablespoons of kecap manis and 1 teaspoon of shrimp paste.

(Step 2)

Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Cook until everything is piping hot and sizzling.

  • If you have any cooked vegetables like peas, broccoli, or sweetcorn, add them at this stage. Stir to incorporate them into the dish.

  • The level of heat in this dish can be adjusted to your preference. For mild heat, follow the recipe as is. To make it medium heat, add an extra teaspoon of chopped red chili. For a hotter version, add 1 tablespoon of chopped red chili and 1 more teaspoon of Sambal Oelek.

  • Once the Nasi Goreng is ready, serve it up and enjoy.
