STICKY ASIAN GLAZED PORK BELLY

Tender pork belly strips coated in a sweet and savoury glaze. The combination of Chinese Five Spice, honey, cinnamon, star anise, and white miso paste creates a delicious sauce that's perfect for pork. The sauce is reduced and enhanced with dark soy and honey, giving it that stickiness and depth. Finish it in the oven for a caramelized finish.

Ingredients-

  • 1.2kg Pork Belly Strips

  • 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice

  • 2 tbsp Honey

  • 2 Whole Cinnamon Sticks

  • 4 Whole Star Anise

  • 1 tbsp white miso paste

  • 2 tbsp water

  • Pinch of salt

  • Pinch of pepper

  • 2 tbsp dark soy

Instructions-

  1. In a slow cooker, add the pork belly strips along with Chinese Five Spice, honey, cinnamon sticks, star anise, white miso paste mixed with 2 tbsp of water, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper.

  2. Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on high for 5 hours.

  3. Once the pork is tender and the kitchen is filled with amazing aromas, remove the meat from the slow cooker and set it aside on a plate.

  4. Strain the liquid from the slow cooker and transfer it to a pan. Heat it on medium heat.

  5. Allow the liquid to reduce by a third, then add 2 tbsp of dark soy and 2 tbsp of honey. Whisk well and let the liquid slightly thicken.

  6. Add the pork and the sauce to an oven dish and bake at 180°C for an additional 20 minutes.

  7. If you plan to bake it later, add foil to the oven dish, remove it when cooking, and bake for 30 minutes at 180°C.

  8. Serve the Sticky Asian Glazed Pork Belly with fresh noodles and crunchy vegetables, and don't forget to drizzle over that sticky sauce.
